Prop 65 – California
Proposition 65, officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a California law that requires businesses to provide consumers in California with warnings about exposure to chemicals that are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or reproductive harm.
Some REED products require a Proposition 65 warning if they were to be purchased by a California consumer. Proposition 65 provides that the warning to the consumer can be included on the product or its packaging. For packaging, REED is choosing the short form labeling method. As such, REED includes the following warning on every impacted item or every item package:
WARNING Cancer and Reproductive Harm -
www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
OR
WARNING Cancer -
www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
REED Distributors Selling into California: You do not need to do anything additional with these on-product warnings. You do need to take additional action, however, if you sell these products on a website or in a catalog. In addition to the on-product warning, Proposition 65 also requires the same warning be provided on any website or catalog that sells these products. Therefore, if you sell these products on a website or through a catalog, please take the additional steps to remain compliant with Proposition 65.
